| Pre-school
The pre-school area is divided into 6 learning areas: messy play area, quiet area, construction area, role-play area, maths and science area and computer area. All areas are set on the child’s level with a wide range of positive and stimulating equipment accessible to the children promoting independence. We believe that making our environment accessible to all children builds self-esteem through independence helping our little learners to become confident and self-assured, learning by exploration.
During the Pre-school session as well as carrying out small group activities built around the children’s interest and individual needs we also have a ‘Free Play’ time which allows children to make choices about their play and plan their own play. During the ‘Free Play’ time the adult’s role is to support the child’s play and encourage progression. This helps children to learn by their own experiences and to make decisions and choices.
The Foundation Stage
The ‘Foundation Stage’ starts at the age of three and finishes at the end of Reception Year. During the foundation Stage your child will carry out planned stimulating and fun play through activities. The activities are planned to meet each child’s individual needs following the ‘Early Learning Goals’, which are set by the DfES.
The ‘Early Learning Goals’ represent the goal where most children should be at the end of the ‘Foundation Stage’. Whilst planning activities for your child, your key worker will use ‘Stepping Stones’ (steps towards the Early Learning Goals) to help them achieve and learn to their full capacity.
The 6 Areas of Learning that the Foundation Stage is built around are as follows:
- Language and Literacy
- Mathematical Development
- Knowledge and Understanding of the World
- Creative Development
- Personal and Social Development
- Physical Development
Your key worker will always be available to discuss your child’s development. You can request an allocated time to discuss your child’s progress with your key worker at any time.
