We couldn’t do the things we do at The Roberts Centre or support families as we do without our wonderful volunteers working with us and contributing some spare time and their skills to support our services.

We look for volunteers who are as passionate as we are in wanting to improve the lives of children and families. IF THAT’S YOU – GET IN TOUCH ….. What ever your skills we can find just the right role for you! Some people volunteer in the Nursery, Child Contact or the Playscheme in the school holidays and some do admin, fundraising, painting, cooking, well the list is endless.

Who are they ….Chrissie is one of our regular volunteers in the Nursery. You can often find her in the kitchen washing up and tidying round after the children have had their lunch.

When asked why she chose to volunteer at the Roberts Centre she said that it was something she had wanted to do for a while, her 2 sons are very busy with their careers and family, so she felt she had time to give. She said “I had wanted to be a Nursery Nurse all my life so I looked online for what I could get involved with locally and found the Roberts Centre, it just ‘called’ to me”.

Chrissie gets involved in all sorts in the Nursery when she comes in every week, it can be anything from sharpening pencils, helping the children with art and craft or doing the Nursery garden. Asked if she thought volunteers made a difference she replied, “It helps staff and eases the burden a bit, it’s another face for the children to see”. Chrissie particularly enjoys working one to one with the children who find mixing with others difficult, she likes to spend time getting to know them and gradually helping them to join in.

What others say:

It is good for volunteers to continue to use important skills. An opportunity to be part of the team at the Roberts Centre, It is valuable to feel you can give something back to society and gain pleasure from doing it.”  (Ann ~ Volunteer helping in Central Services)

A feeling that they are playing a small part in helping to improve relationships within troubled families”. (Hilary ~ Volunteer in the Contact Centre)
