On 23rd October 2014 the University of Portsmouth’s careers and Recruitment Service ‘Purple Door’ hosted a volunteering fair. Over 40 organisations attended in the hope of giving students a chance to find out about local volunteering opportunities to help gain skills and essential work experience. In order to promote the volunteering roles available at The Roberts centre, Bethany Hayden (HR Adminsitrator) and Angela Thomas (Service user Involvement Worker) attended the fair.
Angela and Bethany received a great response, with just over 60 students coming to the stand to talk about the Roberts Centre and the various volunteering roles. Since the event took place we have received double the number of volunteering applications during November.
Many of the student who attended the fair are now volunteering within the Nursery and Contact Centre, giving them a great opportunity to learn new skills and develop as a person, whilst also helping others and meeting new people.
The Roberts Centre values their volunteers highly and the recruitment of volunteers is a key focus, so if you have the time to put something back into the community please do get in touch.
